Background: After only a brief overnight visit to Dar Es Salaam on Saturday (July 21), President Micombero of Burundi and President Mobutu of Zaire flew back to their homes on Sunday (22 July).
During the short stay in which both visiting heads of state met President Nyerere of Tanzania, President Micombero admitted an attack on Tanzanian territory on June 20..an attack in which ten civilians were killed. A communique issued as the visit came to an end said that the Burundi Government had also agreed to pay compensation.
President Nyerere drove with his guests to the airport to see them off. Before Colonhel Micobmbero boarded President Mobutu's special aircraft to fly home, he warmly embraced President Nyerere, and the Zaire leader said he was very happy that all had gone well.
