  • Description

The Shah talks of the hardships his country has suffered, and on it's occupation since the second world war.

"Our country was in a sorry state, but thanks to God we pulled through. We thought a gradual reform was not the answer to our problem and so we developed a planned programme that would propel our country to the forefront of the progressive countries of the world. We had trouble moving society into the new way of life, and it required a great deal of thought and also experts and technicians, on the other hand it was very easy, except for the abolition of the feudal system of landowners, we had little to destroy as the vested interests were not powerful and industry was in it's infancy".

    He calls his programme revolutionary.

"We have introduced two other points to our programme, one will enable us to eradicate illiteracy in our country within the next ten years. Two is our healing core, these are Doctor graduates which are formed into groups and sent out to help those in need of medical care. We try to strengthen peace and security, and try to be friendly to all our neighbour. We think the rest of the world should do the same. However until world disarmament is accomplished we cannot put an end to our disarmament. We are eager to fight for disarmament and have sent a number of proposals to the United Nations, we are near the Swedes and Canadians in this field."

Iranian woman rises and speaks on behalf of the women in her country.
