Background: Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by Prime Minister Nehru, watched a gymnastic display given by India's National Cadet Corps at New Delhi, on Jan. 27th.
A thousand cadets -- boys and girls -- took part. They were dressed in white dresses with red sashes, and the Queen, the Duke, and Mr. Nehru drove around in a Landrover to inspect them. Senior boy cadets gave a demonstration of gun drill.
Next item during the Royal visit was a luncheon at Mr. Nehru's residence, where the Queen and Duke had their first meal of purely Indian food. In the evening, they watched Indian country dancing and a moving display of military pageantry.
