NIKOLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA WON HER HEAT IN THE BEST TIME OF THE DAY, 2 MINUTES 4.8 SECONDS. THE BRITISH GIRL, LILLIAN BOARD WON HER HEAT IN 2 MINUTES 5.7 SECONDS AND SHE AND NIKOLIC ARE EXPECTED TO FIGHT OUT THE FINAL TOMORROW (SATURDAY).

    THE FINAL OF THE DISCUS THROW WAS WON BY MISS ILLGEN OF EAST GERMANY WITH A THROW OF 187 FEET NINE INCHES. HER COUNTRYWOMAN, K. SPIELBERG, WAS SECOND AND A. DE BRUIN-VAN-DIJK OF HOLLAND WAS THIRD.

    THE FASTEST HEAT IN THE 400 METRES WAS THAT OF 54.2 BY DUTCH GIRL, M. HEEVAN-JANSEN. MISS MUNKACSI OF HUNGARY WON HER HEAT IN 55.4. THE FASTEST HEAT IN THE 100 METRES WAS WON BY VALERIA PEAT OF ENGLAND, WHO HAD A TIME OF 11.3 SECONDS, WHICH WAS .1 OF A SECOND OUTSIDE DOROTHY HYMAN'S NATIONAL RECORD.
