Background: Hijacked and held in Cuba for four days, a Boeing 707 jet-liner with 68 persons aboard arrived at its original destination, Miami, Wednesday (June 2).
The 59 passengers and nine crewmen had been held in Havana since Saturday When a 22-year old Venezuelan, Ivan Gustave Garcia Landaetta, brandishing a penknife at the throat of his 13-year-old girl hostage, ordered the aircraft to land in Cuba. It had been enroute to Miami from Caracas, Venezuela.
None of those aboard could explain the length of detention in the Cuban capital. Almost all of the aircraft which have been diverted to Havana in the last 10 years have been permitted to leave within hours of their arrival.
Although official sources have refused comment, it is believed that the ??? and its occupants were held in retaliation for American seizure of bigot Cuban fishermen last week for violation of United States territorial ???ors.
