Background: Two fishing smacks, the "Maria Jesua" and the "Maria del Coro Dominaga", found 95 miles off Pasajes a derelict submarine drifting... By a bold manoeuvre they succeeded in mooring it with several cables in spite of the rough sea.

To bring it to port it was first necessary to cut the chain hanging from the submarine. This chain leads one to assume that the submarine was being towed by another ship before it was abandoned.

The smack "Larra" and the patrol-boat V-18 supervised the operation.

The three fishermen jumped into the submarine and remained on the bridge all night, performing the grappling.

According to the regulations concerning maritime captures, the value of the boat shall be distributed between the men who found it, the ship-owner and the Government, unless international agreements object to it.

Fajardo and Suarez, the skippers of the smacks who captured the submarine pose before the cameras. The submarine's name in Greek letters "Argonaut" and it bears a Y and the number 15 also. The boat is anchored at Pasajes.
