Background: Dr. Robert Servatius - defence counsel for Adolf Eichmann, who is to stand trial in Israel next March on charges of being responsible for the slaughter of millions of Jews - arrived at Lydda Airport late on Dec 17 for his second visit to his client.
Interviewed at the airport, the Cologne lawyer said he would defend Eichmann despite his "shock" at reading his client's memoirs in "Life" magazine. Dr. Servatius added he would meet Attorney-General Gideon Hausner the following day and would also see Eichmann "as soon as possible". There was still the question whether the "Life" articles were a correct version of what Eichmann himself had written.
