AMUNDSON: Nine of the Texas runs scored on homers. the two that didn't came in on this third innings single by Roy Howell, it turned out to be the winning hit.
Texas already had a four to nothing lead on Jim Sundberg's second innings grand slam. On the left of the screen you can see Texas pitcher Bill Hands pull up lame while trying to cove first on a grounder.
Hands has been a hard luck pitcher for the Rangers of late, going to a six nothing lead Hands had to be helped off the field with a pulled leg muscle. He pitched only two and two thirds innings and so he missed the chance to pick up his sixth victory.
Jeff Burroughs has been swinging a hot bat for the Rangers. Burroughs hit a home run over that monster wall at left field at Keway Park in the firth. Burroughs, the American League's N.V.C. has hit fourteen homers this season, one behind Bobby Bonds and five in the last six games. Bernie Carbo accounted for all four Boston runs with his second career grand slam. It came in the sixth off Jackie brown, who relieved Hands and finished the game. He hit five-and-five, the same as Boston's started and loser Rick Wein.
Toby Harrah joined the home run parade with a two run shot in the eighth.
Jim Spencer also homered with a man on in that innings.
The Rangers had played a twelve inning game Saturday, twenty six innings on Sunday, manager Billy Martin said his players were tired--but if they were, it didn't show.
