    Background: Waterskiiers from eight European nations gathered in Yugoslavia on Sunday (1 August) to compete for the European Waterskiing Cup.

    SYNOPSIS: The competition was held at Zbilje Lake, near Ljubljana, and the large crowd saw Italian Paola Franchi take part in the women's section of the cup. Here she performs in the jumps section. She eventually took second place.

    The skier who took third place in the women's section was Miroslava Vodova of Czechoslovakia.

    One of the Yugoslavian competitors was Andrea Husjak. But she was unplaced.

    Spectators had to brave heavy rain to watch the men's competition. It was John Battleday of Britain who took the title and set a new record for a jump when he reached 47 meters (154 feet).

    He was followed closely by Franz Oberleitner of Austria who took second place with 46.30 metres (151 feet).
