Background: South Vietnamese troops were still advancing steadily along Highway 13 towards besieged An Loc on Monday (17 April).
With the support of helicopter gunships and armoured vehicles, the ARVN troops are moving more rapidly than before. They are still encountering communist resistance, but as newsmen have been forbidden to accompany the South Vietnamese advance, there have been no indications of casualties on either side.
An Loc, which is reported to have already changed control twice, is now reported to be still in Government hands. North Vietnamese tanks entered the town over the weekend, but Saigon military command spokesmen said they were destroyed with rockets.
Highway 13 leads directly to An Loc. The military command refuses to estimate when the South Vietnamese task force -- condenamed Bravo -- will be in a position to reinforce the town.
