Background: President Suharto of Indonesia, on a four-day State Visit to Australia, spent lat Monday (7 February) in Canberra. At an official luncheon at the Federal Parliament buildings, President Suharto told Mr. McMahon, the Australian Prime Minister, that co-operation between the two countries should be extended to military links. Earlier in the day he had laid a wreath at the city's war memorial and seen war exhibits inside its shrine. From Canberra, President Suharto planned to travel to Melbourne for talks on trade and investment before flying on to Manila for another State Visit in the Philippines.
