Background: King Hussein of Jordan left the Nuffied Hospital in London on Thursday (January 14) after a month-long stay for a complete medical check. The King, looking fit and well, told reporters that he hoped to return to Jordan within the next few days.

The King made a brief statement to pressmen on the steps of the hospital before driving away to his London residence.

Meanwhile, as the King plans his return home to his troubled country, his Government and Palestine Commandos had reached a new agreement under which relations between them will be laid down and an end put to recurrent clashes between the two sides.

The agreement was thrashed out at talks which lasted for two days, commencing on Tuesday (January 12). But even as the talks progressed troops and commandos exchanged shots in Amman's streets.

An official statement broadcast over Amman Radio late on Wednesday (Jan 13) said that under the 13-point agreement a joint committee had been formed to pin-point commando bases to which the guerrillas will immediately withdraw. The agreement stipulates that there must be no attack on commando bases and army positions, whatever the cause.
