    The senior of the two PLO officials who were allowed to stay in Beirut after the evacuation, Chafik Al-Hout, said on January 22nd that he saw a split developing in the Palestine National Council, the Parliament in exile, because of Yasser Arafat's proposals for peaceful and to the Middle East dispute and a rapprochement with jordan. Mr Al-Hout, also said he believed that 90 per cent of all guerilla actions against Israeli forces in Lebanon were carried out by Lebanese fighters rather than by Palestinian commandos.
