COMMENTARY: "Borg, receiving in the red, survived tie-breakers in the first two seats, winning the first one seven-five when Ramirez couldn't handle Borg's two-fisted backhand. The eighteen-year -old Swede said, "You have to be lucky to win those tie-breakers. I was lucky, but I also played well." Borg won the second-set tie-breaker, also seven-five, when Ramirez lob just cleared the end line."

"The third set was strictly no contest, Borg winning it six-love. Borg hopes to reach the WCT finals for the second year in a row. But he hopes the result will be different. Last year, he lost the championship match to John Newcombe who is not defending his title this year. Borg rests until Friday, when he takes on Laver in the semi-finals."

Background: Rod Laver, the veteran Australian, and Bjorn Borg, Sweden's bright young tennis star, won through to a meeting in the semi-finals of the World Championship Tennis tournament in Dallas this week.

Borg's three set victory over Mexican Raul Ramirez was not entirely straightforward, with the Swede forced into a tie-break in the first two sets. Nevertheless, Borg won in three sets.

Laver, on the other hand, faced a titanic struggle against Harold Solomon of the United States. It lasted for three hours before Laver won through 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3--though he admitted he was close to exhaustion by the end.
