Background: At noon today Sir Geoffrey de Freitas said goodbye to the Governor General of Kenya, Mr. Malcolm MacDonald (son of Ramsay MacDonald-former Prime Minister of Great Britain.) Sir Geoffrey who has been filling the post of British High Commissioner in Kenya for the period since Kenya became independent last December, will be contesting a Labour seat in the forthcoming general elections in Britain. At the garden party which was held in his honour by the Gov. General Sir Geoffrey said that he had enjoyed working in Kenya but was returning to England for the above mentioned reason. He resigned his post because the federation of East Africa in his mind was not a reality at the moment and he could not see it materialising for some considerable time, and in the first place he had accepted the post on the understanding that he would be the H.C. for the East African Federation. He and Lady de Freitas leave for London tomorrow morning after holding a press conference.
