Background: Visnews filmed Jan 28 at the CHOSEN HOTEL, Seoul, South Korea, as thirty-years-old Pravda reporter Lee Dong Lun gave a press conference after his flight from communism.
During a meeting of the Military Armistice Commission called at the request of the communists in the Joint Security Area near Panmunjon, Lee Dong Lun, a reporter covering the discussions for Pravda, ran into the Orderly Room Hut of the US Joint Duty Officer, and asked for asylum. A news cameraman on hand filmed him entering the hut. Lee Dong Lun was immediately removed from the area and granted asylum.
The meeting had been called by the communists to voice their objection against what they called "the forced emigration by the imperialistic United States and Rhee-clique of North Korean Displaced persons".
In his Press Conference Lee Dong Lun said he had been planning the escape for many years. His father had been arrested one month ago as a 'reactionary'. Lee Dong Lun left his wife and two-months -old baby his mother and two brothers in Pyongyang. "They will surely be killed" he said.
The Republic of Korea spokesman 'welcomed' the election as a 'symbol of the North Korean Pepope's wish to free themselves from communist suppression'.
Asked what he would do it the future excited Lee Dong Lun said, "I'm so excited that I don't know".
