Background: Today, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., the reception ceremony for the Olympic Torch will begin, number TWO in the Cultural Program of the XIX Olympic Games.
This ceremony will consist of a Mexican Dance festival, involving 1,500 dancers, in three groups, spread out before Pyramid of the Moun, who through choreographic movements will breathe life onto the symbols, such as birds, jade, and flowers, of the famous Nahuatl poem:
"I love the song of the Censotle, bird of four-hundred voices I love the color jade, and the enervating perfume of the flowers, but I love even more my brethren Man."
The three groups will in turn through a development of movements, create each of these prehispanic symbols: the bird, jade, and the flower.
Then arrives the moment awaited. All the dancers adopt an attitude of mysterious premonition, expectation, as before the realization of an imminent miracle: the arrival of Man. This is the arrival of the Olympic Torch bearer, announced by the distant sound of the Conches, and then, each time a bit stronger and faster, the sound of the beating heat, effectuated by the roll of the teponaxles (drums), culminating in a great beating of drums.
The Torch beares crosses the esplanade, climbs to the top of the Pyramid of the Moon, where he lights the huge censor, from which surges a flame four meters high. At this moment there is released a huge artificial fireworks display, covering the archaeological area of Tectihuacan with a multicolored mantle.
The realization of this Reception of the Olympic Flame in Teetihuacan has been achieved through the cooperation of the Ballet of the Security Centers of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, and directed by 50 physical education professors and 10 professional dancers.
