Background: A new military agreement between China and the People's Republic of the Congo was signed in Brazzaville last Friday (25 April).
Former Chief of the Congolese General Staff, Colonel Joachim Yhombi Opango, who last year took up the post of member of the Congolese Council of State in Charge of Security and Defence, signed the agreement, together with the Chinese Charge d'Affaires in Brazzaville.
Under the agreement, China is pledged to supply military equipment to the Congo and to provide training for Congolese personnel.
