Marchers carry images of Buddha on a decorated throne, swords, and sweetly-burning joss-sticks. In the course of the parade some marchers, seized by religious ecstasy, fall into a trance. Men in this state pierce themselves with steel spears, in return for some divine favour.
The procession goes on for hours, ending at a Buddhist temple.
