Background: The finals of the Twentieth International Games for the Paralysed were played off today (Saturday, July 31) at Stoke Mandeville, North of London. Our film shows three of the 19 events of the day: Archery, Relay Race and Basketball. The Relay Race was won by France; and Israel defeated Argentina in the Basketball final.

The Games, which opened on Sunday (July 25), have been played throughout the week with competitors from 27 countries. Among those watching was Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia, who has been returning to Stoke Mandeville since a car crash broke his neck in March 1969. At that time he was considered one of the greatest Olympic Marathon runners of all time, after winning two Gold Medals.

SYNOPSIS: At Stoke Mandeville, North of London, the finals of the Twentieth International Games for the Paralysed were played off on Saturday, July 31. At the Games, which began the previous Sunday, competitors from twenty-seven countries have taken part. (PAUSE) A very popular sport among paraplegics everywhere is archery. Norway won Gold and Silver medals in this event.

Nineteen events took place on the final day -- one of them was the Track Relay Race which was won By France.

A thrilling basketball final was played off between Israel, in light shirts, and Argentina, in dark stripes. The first basket w??? scored by the South Americans.

One time Marathon champion Abebe Bikila watched as Israel began score.

Israel takes the lead to the gre??? enthusiasm of their supporters.

Both teams played a hard and even game -- which ended in a close victory for Israel by only six baskets: sixty-four to fifty-eight.
