Background: The Palace of Sports in Luzhniki, Moscow was the venue this week for a contest which had nothing to do with sport....the International Hairdressing contest.
Top hairdressers from eight Socialist countries gathered in the Palace of Sports to demonstrate their skills with the aid of a group of very attractive models.
A strict jury made up of representatives from all branches of the hairdressing trade, sat in judgement of the contestants to select the best stylists and the best cutters. The contest included both hair styling for men and women.
The old Victorian-style was prominent in the women's hair styling with a large array of beads, flowers and brioches used to enhance the styles.
A highlight of the contest was the final parade of the models wearing their national costumes.
