Background: Dior, the famous Paris fashion house, has chosen a married man to replace their chief designer Yves St. Laurent, who is doing 27-months military service. The new designer is Marc Bohan, 34, who has been with the company for two years. Designer Bohan has been responsible for Dior creations in the firm's London branch.
He started a career in fashion designing over 12 years ago. Since then he has been on the staff of several top fashion houses including that of Jean Path, who he left to take up a position with Dior.
The new chief's first job will be to prepare about 500 sketches from which will be chosen the spring collection due for display in January. After he had heard the news Bohan said he thought English women and the London climate will probably have some effect on his work.
On making the appointment, the Fashion house made it clear that Bohan will be in charge only while 25-year-old Yves St. Laurent is in the army. The young dress designer is at present in an army hospital with a nervous complaint.
