Background: Weekend action in Cambodia took toll of both military and civilian lives -- and also led to the release by the Communists of another Western newsman.

On Saturday, three men were killed and four wounded when a civilian taxi struck a land mine on Highway One linking Phnom Penh with Saigon.

It happened near the village of Kompong Trabek, 50 miles east of Phnom Penh. Two of the dead were Cambodian soldiers. The car was flung off the road into a paddy field.

Cambodian troops investigating the incident attacked Viet Cong forces in the vicinity and were said to have killed two of them.

On Sunday an American journalist, Robert Anson, returned to Phnom Penh after his release by the Communists whom he described only as 'Front' troops.

Anson, who works for Time magazine, was captured three weeks ago in the Skoun area, 44 miles north of Phnom Penh. He described his treatment as 'marvellous' and said of his captors: 'We really got to be brothers'.

He was the third Western Newsman to be released by anti-government force sin four days. Last Thursday two French correspondents were set free near Angkor Wat.
