Background: Thailand's women and men's teams were both defeated on the second day of the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi on February 23. The Thai women were demolished 5-0 in their opening match against Indonesia and on TWO MINUTES MAXIMUM IN SCHEDULED NEWS February 23 they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the strong Indian team, who are favourites. India's women's champion Ami Ghia proved far too strong for Thailand's Cheuycham Vilailak, winning 11-5, 4-11, 11-2. In the second singles, India were again triumphant when Madhumita Singh beat Lertyoraluk Darunee in straight games 12-9, 11-1. In the men's event. Thailand were again on the losing side, this time to South Korea. Park Joo Bong defeated the Thai number one Sompol Kukasemkij 15-11, 15-6 and in the second singles match Thailand's Sungchai Pansathithwong had no answer to the power of Sung Han Hook, who won 15-4, 15-5.
