Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan on his return form Washington at the VIP Lounge at Ben Gurion Airport.

  • Description

Dayan: We do not accept the Egyptian proposal the way it was submitted to us. The Americans have come forward with their own proposals both to Prime Minister begin and the Egyptians. There are consultations - they called back Butrus Rali. We do not deny or have any reason to do so, to feel we are committed to that and we do want it to go ahead, not only with the Egyptian Israeli peace treaty but also the establishment of a Palestinian Administration to replace the Israeli Military. After all it was our idea. We do not want to forget about it but we want to set up a model for living together and not for Israel to be kicked out of the W. Bank and Gaza.

Q: What Israeli demands are the Egyptians not agreeing to?

Dayan: (silence) The main one is oil. By relinquishing territories we shouldn't lack oil. Normalization the time for withdrawal of military forces, UN forces, meaning of demilitarization, timetable.
