Background: In the wake of Mrs. Gandhi's decision to fight out the court battle in the courts and not resign, the legal position about her continuing as Prime Minister of India having been cleared, the Opposition Parties have decided to intensify their campaign demanding her resignation in the light of limited stay granted by the Supreme Court to the judgement of Allahabad High Court. In New Delhi a group of over a hundred students and teachers assembled (even though the University is closed) and marched towards the President's House to request the President to stop the government from misusing the mass media. they were stopped by a police cordon as they neared the President's House. Later in the day Mr. Jai Prakash Narain addressed a mass meeting of Delhi public to explain the strategy of combined Opposition excluding the Communist Party of India in launching the agitation. The agitation is to be conducted under the leadership of Mr. Morarji Desai, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India. Mr. Desai also addressed the meeting. The Opposition parties have decided to educate in the first instance the public about the judgment and to launch a civil disobedience movement near Mrs. Gandhi's residence from June 29th to July 5th, where every day groups of pa? volunteers under an all India leader will offer arrest.
