No details os the discussions wee released, but the two men have agreed to meet again in East Berlin on Thursday (9 September). This film, shot by Visnews cameraman Guenter Lahmann, shows the two men together for the first time on film since the talks began.
West German Chancellor Willy Brandt later told a special session of West Berlin's city Government that the second phase of the Berlin negotiations between the two Germanies would not be easy.
He was speaking during his first visit to the city since the signing of the four-power Berlin pact on Friday (3 September). The West Berlin talks concern the opening of the Berlin wall to permit two million West Berliners to travel more freely in the East.
SYNOPSIS: The second phase of the Berlin talks opened on Monday with negotiators from East and West Germany working out complete transit details to the four-power Berlin agreement signed on Friday. East Germany Government officials crossed the Berlin wall for talks with West Berlin city Government representatives. The East German official, Herr Guenter Kohrt, was welcomed by West Berlin's negotiator Ulrich Mueller....it is the first time two men have been filmed together. Although no official details of Monday's meeting were released, spokesmen did say that the two had agreed to meet again in East Berlin later this week.
Later in the day, West German Chancellor Willy Brandt arrived with West Berlin's mayor Klaus Schuetz and Foreign Minister Walter Scheel. Herr Brandt, a former ma??? of West Berlin, told a special session the City Senate that the talks following a quarter of a century of crisis would not be easy.
Herr Brandt said he expected the East Germans to show the same interest as the West in bringing the talks to a positive conclusion so that a complete treaty ??? be effected.
