Background: Continuing his successful tour of India, the Duke of Edinburgh piloted his 'Heron' aircraft during a flight from Madras to Bangalore Feb 1. VISNEWS cameras filmed his open car drive through the city's streets thronged with cheering people, and his visits to an aircraft and machine tool factory. He was accompanied by the Maharaja of Mysore.
The following day Feb 2 the Duke spoke at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Institute of Sciences. Among the vast audience was the President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. During his speech the Duke said "There must be a link between scientific genius and humane and courageous thought".
The Duke visited the Indian city of Jamshedpur Feb 3 before flying on to Pakistan Feb 4, next step on his world tour.
