Background: As a result of the growing Soviet naval activity in the Eastern Mediterranean, the United States have decided to sign an agreement with Greece for the use of Piraeus ad "home port" of the 6th U.S. Fleets.
According to information from reliable sources, in the first stage, some 50 U.S. Naval officers with their families will arrive in Piraeus to establish their H.Q. This will be done within the next 3 months. Later, a flotilla of six destroyers of the 6th Fleets will take berth at Piraeus "home port". An aircraft carrier and other support units of the Fleets will take anchor after that. The whole operation of the "home port" agreement will be completed in two years.
