TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 8: Ronald Reagan: "The meeting has just ended - an a very happy meeting it was. The entire group, in response to a motion from the floor to support an endorsement of the guild's position, arose to register the vote by acclaim and applause. And with this support we go into a further meeting with the producers' association, Tuesday".

Friday afternoon, as we reported to this group in here, we negotiated proposals for the first time in the area, which here before has not been a subject for negotiations. And I believe, in a spirit of goodwill and fair negotiation, we are now on our way to a settlement of what has been a very regrettable and tragic affair.

(We asked Mr. Reagan if any dissident feeling was expressed at the meeting.)

"I heard or saw no expression of anyone who did not endorse the guild's position overwhelmingly".

Background: Members of the Screen Actors Guild of America, including many internationally known film stars, met at the Hollywood Palladium Theatre, California, Mar 13, to determine the next step in their week-old strike for a percentage of money received from sale of post-1948 films on television.

After the meeting, Guild President Ronald Reagan said:
Negotiators have expressed unofficial optimism of an early settlement of the walkout, which has shut down production at the major film studios. Representatives of the Screen Actors Guild and the Motion Picture Producers Association met Mar 11. Because of progress made at this meeting, it was decided to hold a further meeting Mar 15.
