Background: The Grand Hotel, one of the most plush establishments of the palmier days in Cannes, is being demolished.
Mr John Crawford, one-time owner of the hotel, is living in a ground-floor flat in the building.....and is remaining there while bricks and mortar fall on all sides.
The Cannes authorities have tried unsuccessfully to get him out, and have offered Mr Crawford alternative accommodation.
But hotelier Crawford considers the accommodation proffered, as unsuitable and not up to standard, and refuses to budge until something more fitting is put his way.
