Background: Full security measures were in force in Jerusalem on Sunday (6 July) for the funeral of victims of a bomb attack in the city which killed 13 and wounded 78. The bomb exploded on in a busy shopping square. Extra police and armed troops were on duty as the victims were buried.
Police said the city was quiet during the funeral. As an added precaution the Arab quarter of the city was closely watched. Six of 300 Arab suspects rounded up after the explosion are being held.
The bomb was planted in a refrigerator. It exploded as hundreds of Israelis were shopping. It was the bloodies guerrilla attack in the city since 1968 when another blast killed 13 people.
