Many were just sitting in the sun. A shop keeper was pounding rock salt for sale. Others did business in wool, while one shop keeper had displayed his wares of blue pottery hoping for some stray tourist or buyer to drop in. Shop windows displayed exquisite Afghan silver jewellery. Afghan police and some of the army men watched from a veranda but they were not armed.
