Background: In Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the "new" bridge completed last year and named the Houphouet-Boigny Bridge has ben renamed the General de Gaulle Bridge in honour of the late President of France.
President Felix Houphouet-Boigny of the Ivory Coast formally inaugurated the Bridge under its new name on Monday, 1st February.
The General de Gaulle Bridge spans the Ebrie Lagoon and connects the Abidjan Plateau with Treichville and the docks. Its carriageway continues for six miles as the Boulevard General de Gaulle.
