Background: Visnews cameras toured Hanover's annual International Industries Fair on opening day, April 26.

German industrial magnate Herr Krupp is exhibiting an impressive range. Centre of attraction: a scale model of a Brown - Boveri/Krupp nuclear reactor for high temperature breeding. Its fuel elements are 2 1/2 inch graphite balls containing thorium which is changed into fissile Uranium 233. These special fuel elements retain their physical properties under temperatures exceeding 2,000 degrees Centigrade.

The heaviest unit displayed by Krupp is a crawler truck unit weighing 100 tons. This truck is one of three needed to carry a bucket-wheel excavator capable of moving 6,540 cubic yards of loose material per hour. The huge crawler units adapt themselves to any feature of the ground and will support loads up to 1.100 tons, enabling the gigantic excavator to move at speeds of 7 to 27 ft per minute.

For heavy erection work involving high lifts Krupp/Ardelt have developed a crane which hoists 35 tons at a radius of 20 ft. to a height of 33 ft. A load of 2.5 tons can be lifted 210 ft by this giant child of modern technology. All machinery required for moving the crane-engine, gearbox, hoist and swing gear, counterweights operator's seat and controls are arranged on the revolving frame.

The Krupp-owned Harburg Iron and Bronze works show a 500 cwt fully automatic tyre curing press- the largest of its kind ever to be built in Germany - designed to mould and vulcanise the hugest tyres in one operation.
