Background: A 21st birthday smile March 2 from Princess Suga of Japan who will marry a commoner March 10.
The Princess, youngest daughter of Emperor Hirohito, poses in a double-collard afternoon satin dress in a study of her apartment in the palace. On the lawn of the palace garden she poses in a white jersey and plays with her dog, a Yorkshire short-haired terrier.
Princess Suga, the youngest of the Emperor's six children, will lose her title on her marriage to a Tokyo bank clerk. He is Hisanaga Shimazu, 26, son of a late Count, once grand master of ceremonies in the imperial palace.
At present her fiance earns GBP27 a month. The Princess' dowry will be GBP15,000.
Last April, her brother, Prince Akihito married a commoner. Princess Suga, like Princess Margaret who is to marry a commoner in the UK, is a jazz fan and horse rider.
