Background: THE INTERNATIONAL SIX-DAY MOTORCYCLE TRIALS - THE OLYMPIADE OF MOTOR-CYCLING - ENDED AT LLANDRINDOD WELLS, WALES, OCTOBER 7, WITH A WIN FOR THE WEST GERMAN TEAM IN THE INTERNATIONAL TROPHY FOR SIX-MAN TEAMS, AND FOR CZECHOSLOVAKIA IN THE SILVER VASE AWARDS FOR FOUR-MAN TEAMS.

FINAL DAY EVENTS CONSISTED OF HALF-HOUR SPEED TRIALS FOR 175.c.c. AND 250.c.c. MACHINES. THIS WAS NOT A RACE. RIDERS HAD TO COMPLETE THE LONGEST DISTANCE IN THIRTY MINUTES.

NOTHING SEEMED TO WORRY THE GERMANS, EVEN THOUGH AT THE END OF THE FINAL DAY'S RUN FROM LLANDRINDOD WELLS TO A DISUSED AIRFIELD AT SHOBDEN THEY WERE STRONGLY CHALLENGED BY THE CZECHOSLOVAKS. AS THEY HAD DONE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE 1,200 MILES OF WELSH MOUNTAIN TRACK - AND II SPECIAL TESTS - THE WEST GERMANS FILED THROUGH THE FINAL CONTROL POINT WITHOUT LOSING A PENALTY MARK. UNFORTUNATELY FOR THE CZECHS, VLADIMIR SEDINA, ONE OF THEIR BEST SCORERS, WAS FORCED TO RETIRE 60 MILES SHORT OF THE FINISH WITH A SMASHED GEAR-BOX. THIS COST THEM 100 MARKS AND TWO PLACES IN THE FINAL TABLE. THE ITALIANS MOVED INTO SECOND PLACE.

HOWEVER, SOME MEASURE OF CONSOLATION CAME TO CZECHOSLOVAKIA, FOR THEIR TWO FOUR-MAN TEAMS TOOK FIRST AND SECOND PLACES IN THE INTERNATIONAL SILVER VASE AWARDS. BRITAIN'S 'B' TEAM CAME THIRD.

INTERNATIONAL TROPHY WINNERS:- WEST GERMANY. E. SCHMIDER. L. MULLER. L. SPECHT. R. HESSLER. S. NAUCHTMAN. C. DOTTERWEICH.

INTERNATIONAL SILVER VASE WINNERS:- CZECHOSLOVAKIA. A. ROUCKA. O. CHASAK. A. ZEMAN. F. DAREBNY.
