Background: This ancient Temple in Taipei was the scene for the formal celebrations marking the 2,526th birthday of the Chinese Confucius.

Confucian scholars from throughout South East Asia, including Mr. Yasutaka Tamoto, considered to be the oldest and most learned authority on Confucianism in Japan, attended the ceremony.

This ceremony was also the first time that women students of Confucius were permitted to take part in the ceremony marking the birthday of the ancient sage.

Confucius teaching involves the definition of a wide range of rules aimed at the peaceful running of a society. Scholars say that following the teachings of Confucius will bring a person to true understanding of one's moral natural and involves treating others as one would like to be treated. Communist
The government of/China recently intensified an anti-Confucius campaign throughout the nation. The Chinese government said that the teachings of Confucius prevented people from what the government claimed was, "the endless class struggle."
At this ceremony all seating was prohibited for the first time. The organisers of the festival said the ban on seating for all the celebrants was to promote the solemnity of the occasion and stress the equality of all those taking part.

The music and dances of the ceremony go back more than two thousands years in Chinese history.
