    Background: A delegation of Sudanese trade officials, led by Mr. Ibrahim Moneim Mansour, Minister of Finance and National Economy, met on July 3 with Premier Chou En-lai of The People's Republic of China.

    Chinese Foreign Trade Minister, Pai Hsiang-kuo, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ho Ying, and Vice-Minister of Economic Relations with Foreign Countries, Li Ke, joined Premier Chou in discussions with the Sudanese group.

    Their meeting came on the eve of the signing of a trade protocol between their two countries by Mr. Pai and Mr. Mansour.

    During their stay in Peking, before flying to Shenghel for a tour of industries, the Sudan delegates visited an arts and crafts exhibition, the palace museum and toured the Great Wall and one of the tombs of the Ming rulers.

    SYNOPSIS: A delegation of Sudanese trade officials, led by Mr. Ibrahim Moneim Mansour, met with Premier Chou En-lai of The people's Republic of China earlier this month (July 3). The Sudanese officials were in Peking for talks prior to the signing of a trade protocol.

    Premier Chou personally greeted Mr. Mansour and the two men had what were described as friendly discussion.

    The trade protocol, covering several areas of Chinese-Sudanese trade, was signed by Mr. Mansour and Mr. Pai Hsiang-kuo the day after the meeting.

    Mr. Pai joined in the discussions with the Sudanese officials.

    As well as Mr. Pai, Mr. Ho Ying Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice-Minister of Economic Relations with Foreign Countries, Li Ke joined in the discussions with the Sudanese.

    Before leaving for Shanghai, the Sudanese toured historic sites and exhibitions in the capital.
