Background: Forty six ace drivers took part in the annual grand Prix Pillouet soap box derby in Montreal, Canada, recently.

Their vehicles, constructed from waggons, baby carriages and furniture, looked better than they went.

The only regulation was that the young drivers had to be able to steer their machines.....but the regulation didn't state that they had to steer them well.

The race is named after Pillouet, a fictitious character who was a "grubby faced street kid"....not totally unlike the competitors in the derby.

Spills and thrills were common, but there were no serious injuries.
