Background: The Prime Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, Ali Nasser Muhammed, arrived in Moscow on Wednesday (1 February). The purpose of his visit was to discuss the current situation in the "Horn of Africa" and further bilateral relations between the two countries.
SYNOPSIS: At Moscow airport an official Soviet delegation awaited the arrival of the Prime Minister, whose visit coincided with that of Cuban Defence Minister Raul Castro.
The Soviet Prime Minister Mr. Kosygin and other membe??? of the politburo were on hand to greet Mr. Ali Nasser Muhammed as he arrived. Tass-the Official Soviet News Agency-reported that the purpose of the visit was to discuss the present conflict in the Horn of Africa, and to further economic and technical co-operation between the two countries.
After the official airport welcome, the two premiers met at the Kremlin to discuss current issues. I was later reported that the talks had centred on the inviolability of international frontiers in Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Muhammed stressed that his country was making efforts to prevent the tension increasing in Ethiopia and urged for an end to what he described as imperialist interference in the area. He said that his country wanted to see a peace settlement between Ethiopia and Somalia achieved through democratic dialogue, and not as a result of foreign International pressure.
