In this film, Mr. Gatu and Dr. Graham both speak to the rally and a transcript of their speeches follows:

GATU: "I would also like to say a word of thanks to the Government of South Africa who have made it possible for people from the countries north of Zambezi to be able to come and be with you on this very important occasion. As vice-chairman of the committee of the Order of the Conference of Churches, I would also like to bring to you the greetings of that organisation and assure you that there are many men and women of goodwill who are praying and concerned with you about this time in the life of this continent and South Africa in particular.

GRAHAM: And the more we learn about each other, and meet each other at the foot of the cross, the closer we are going to become and the more we are going to consider each other brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. And, what a wonderful thing this is today. This is the Church. The Church together; those that are believers in Jesus Christ."

Background: American evangelist Dr. Billy Graham told a huge multi-racial South African audience on Saturday (March 17) that the human race stood in danger of destroying itself in "racial conflagration" before the end of the country.

Forty-five thousand people of all races packed Durban's King's Park Rugby Stadium for one of Dr. Graham's well-known religious rallies. It was the largest multi-racial gathering in Durban's history and one of the largest ever in South Africa. The evangelist had refused to speak before segregated audiences.

He declared that the Durban rally was the highlight of his ministry.

Thousands of people went forward at the end of the rally, on Dr. Graham's invitation, to testify their faith.

In introducing the evangelist, the Rev. John Gatu, of Kenya, thanked the South African government for allowing people of all races and from countries to the north to attend the rally.
