    Background: A panel of nine male judges named beautiful Miss India, Tara Anne Fonseca as the perfect Asian Miss in Manila, the Philippines on Thursday (31 May). The lovely lady with the near perfect 35-25-35 (89-63-69 aptox.) measurements won a healthy bundle of money valued at 18,000 U.S. dollars and a series of personal appearance tours throughout Asia.

    The new Miss Asia took the title despite keen opposition from a bevy of beautiful girls representing Australia, New Zealand, Guam, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Israel, India and Indonesia.

    Marks were awarded for poise, looks, conversation ability, personality and dress sense.

    The girls paraded in swim suits, national dress and evening gowns.

    Miss Australia came fifth, narrowly beaten into fourth place by Miss Korea. Third prize want to the lovely Miss from Indonesia. And in second place was Miss Israel, a 20-year-old former Israeli Army Lieutenant.

    SYNOPSIS: Girls from more than 13-nations competed in Manila, the Philippines on Thursday for the coveted and Valuable title, "Miss Asia."
    A panel of nine male judges feasted their expert eyes on the mainly Oriental beauties looking for the manifold qualities to be found in the perfect Miss.

    Competition was of a high order with girls representing Australia, New Zealand, Guam, the Philippines, Thailand, Sough Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Israel, India, and Indonesia.

    Lively Miss Singapore, a rare beauty with an eye on the title. But the competition was keen and it was more than more looks which counted. The Judges were looking for poise, personality, dress sense as well as physical grace....a pleasant task but not the easiest.

    When they'd whittled down the lovelies what was left was of a very high order of beauty.

    The lass from Australia came fifth, narrowly beaten into fourth place by Miss Korea. Third Prize went to glamorous Miss Indonesia, while the runner-up was Miss Israel. But the winner was -- the super Miss from India, Tara Anne Fonseca. Her award -- a big cash prize and a personal appearance tour throughout Asia.
