Background: The Soviet Union exports ball-bearings to many countries. There are several factories specializing in them in the country. One, the first national ball-bearing mill in Moscow, will soon launch a new automatic production line. It is already producing ball-bearings although not all the automatic machines were hooked on to the conveyor belt.
Two adjacent presses are making rings for ball-bearings. One makes the outside rings, the other-the inside ones. The rings are very important parts since the quality of work influences the degree of a ball-bearing's precision.
The through transporter line feeds the rings to two lathe lines. Six-and eight-cylinder automatic lathes process the surfaces of the rings and send them to furnaces.
Later they are accepted into storage magazines, whose many canals are crammed with processed and marked rings. The storage magazines ensure a steady rhythm of work along the entire line.
This is the polishing machine line. A ring is fed in to a machine. This acts like a command for action. The machine switches itself on and the ring is thoroughly processed by a stone. One is off. The cycle ends. The support is free and it stops to wait for the next ring.
The precession and quality of processing is controlled so far in this way. Today the assembly of active control automatons is complete. The machines are now being adjusted. When they start working, the entire processing of ball-bearing rings will be automatic.
After assembly and oiling a ball-bearing is ready to be packed and sent to the user.
The automatic lines ensure a high class of precision and durability of products made by the Soviet industries.
