Background: Due to arrive in Baghdad on Monday May 26 are Mr. J. Vaughan-Morgan, Minister of State at the Board of Trade and Mr. V. H. Mc Fadzean, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council on Middle East Trade. They are on a tour of the Middle East countries during which they will visit Iraq, Iran, the Lebanon and the Persian Gulf.
The object of their tour is to see and discuss at first hand the opportunities for the development of trade between the Middle East and Britain.
The Advisory Council on Middle East Trade, of which Mr. Mc Fadzean is Vice-Chairman, was established in February this year. Its aim is to keep the British Government in touch with the representatives of industry and commerce who have experience of doing business in the Middle East. The Council includes, as well as leaders of industry and commerce, senior representatives of the Treasury, Foreign Office, Board of Trade and Export Credits Guarantee Department.
During their 5 day stay in Iraq the two visitors hope to meet Iraq Government Ministers and officials concerned with trade and economic matters and also to see something of the country's development. They also plan to visit Kirkuk.
