Background: One of the most spectacular crashes seen on a British racing track in recent times occurred at Brands Hatch near London on Saturday (25 October) when a number of big racing motorcycles fell at the first bend, soon after starting the Powerbike International race.

It happened when one rider, Dave Croxford, lost control and fell.

Luckily, none of the eight riders who fell from their machines were badly injured, but several were unable to join the race when it was re-started.

The race was the eighth and final race in the Superbike Championship series, from which the British rider Mick Grant emerged winner.

Yesterday's race, re-run after the crash at Paddock Bend, was won by the London rider Barry Ditchburn on a Kawasaki.
