    Background: The Far East swept the board at Dortmund, West Germany, in the World Table Tennis Championships, April 15.

    The Ladies' Singles was won by Kimiyo Matsuzaki from follow-Japanese Fujie Eguchi, last year's champion Matsuzaki won 21-3, 21-7, 18-21, 21-18.

    In the men's doubles competition, Ogimura of Japan partnered Murakami of Japan, to beat Vyhnanowsky and Stipek of Czechoslovakia, 3-2.

    The only other country to win a title was the Chinese Peoples' Republic. Jung Kuo-Tang, 21-year-old P.T. student, wrested the Men's Singles title from Hungarian Fereno Sido, 1953 champion. The match went 19-21, 21-12, 21-15, 21-14.

    Not shown on film - but in an all-Japanese Ladies' doubles final Taeko Namba and Kasuko Yamaizumi beat Fujie and Kimiyo, 21-19, 21-16, 21-14.
