Background: President Ahmed Sekou Toure of the Revolutionary People's Republic of Guinea began a three day official visit to Bangladesh on Sunday (12 October). The Guinean President, the first ever to visit Bangladesh, was accompanied by six of his ministers.
SYNOPSIS: Traditional Bangladeshi dancers were at Kurmitola International Airport near Dacca when President Sekou Toure's special aircraft arrived.
The visit was considered significant in view of the growing friendship between Bangladesh and Guinea. The two countries are members of the non-aligned movement and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman met President Sekou Toure on the airport tarmac and the visiting leader was accorded a military guard of honour as they made their way back to the terminal. Both men are members of the summit level committee formed at the extraordinary session of the Jerusalem Committee in Casablanca in August this year.
Among a wide range of international matters, they were expected to discuss the question of restoring Jerusalem to the Arabs.
