Background: Another group of Indians from Uganda arrived ink Bombay on Monday (9 Oct.)k aboard the vessel S.S. 'State of Haryana'.

In all, there were 560 people aboard...far fewer than the 800 or 900 originally expected.

The new arrivals included 49 British passport holders and some Indians with Ugandan passports. A british High Commission official who met the British passport holders at the docks said almost all of them had entry certificates for Britain.

The expelled Asians, who travelled by train from Uganda to Mombasa to board the ship, were met by workers of the Indian repatriation committees. Many had tales to tell of harassment and physical intimidation at the hands of Ugandan soldiers and officials.

SYNOPSIS: The ship 'State of Haryana' arrived in Bombay on Monday with another group of Indians expelled from Uganda.

A small percentage of them were British passport holders, and officials of the British High Commission were at the dock to offer them help and advice.

Apart from a small group of Uganda passport holders, the rest had Indian documents. All had travelled by train from Uganda to Mombasa to board the ship.

Some of the expelled Indians had stories to tell of humiliation, harassment and intimidation at the hands of Ugandan soldiers and officials
One of them, Mr. Ajit Singh, showed wounds which he said were inflicted soldiers with bayonets. Mr. Singh is a carpenter from Kampala.

Indian Repatriation committees met the new arrivals at Bombay dockside. They gave them yellow tags for identification, food, and money for their onward transport. A spokesman said well over half the refugees had relatives and friends to go to in India.
