Chris Evert-Lloyd emphasised that she still dominates events in which Martina Navratilova does not compete by easily beating Andrea Jaeger 6-3, 6-1 to win the South African Woman's Open in Johannesburg on May 6. The world No. 2 took less than an hour to seal her victory over the second-seeded Jaeger and collect the 28,000-dollars winner's purse. Evert-Lloyd broke Jaeger's serve immediately, and again in the fifth game, to go 5-1 up in the opening set. Jaeger broke back to trail 3-5 but, after that, seemed distracted by several line calls and did not win another game. Evert-Lloyd did not drop a set during the week-long tournament.
